Family Room Window Coverings

Family rooms are usually used as the “everything” room. Just like kitchens are the gathering places for parties, a family room is where the family goes to watch TV, play games, and just generally hang out.

TV Room
When your family room is also your TV watching room, you’ll definitely want to consider window covering options that make watching TV during the day more enjoyable.

Wood or Faux Wood Blinds
Wood window blinds will add a warm and cozy feel to your room, whether painted or stained. Faux Wood window blinds will add the same feel at a fraction of the cost. Both blinds are durable and affordable with Impact Blinds. And, with both, you’ll be able to adjust the amount of light in your room to your needs.

By choosing a routeless option, you’ll also minimize the amount of light the blinds let in when closed: you won’t see the light coming from the window blinds holes shining on the TV.

To make them even more kid-friendly, select the “Cleat Blocks” option for a way to hold down your window cords and keep the cords away from your children.

Aluminum window blinds are the classic, affordable choice for any family room. With our range of colors, you can find the perfect set to blend in with your home decorating style.  To make them more kid-friendly, select the “Cleat Blocks” option for a way to hold down your window cords and keep the cords away from your children.

Honeycomb/Cellular Shades
Double cell shades work perfectly in any family room setting. The double cell structure is thicker which will allow for less light to shine in your room. And, it also adds extra insulation and is one of the most energy efficient selections you can make – great for rooms that receive a lot of sun. Plus, you won’t have to worry about light seeping in from between the slats or holes of the blinds.

With the variety of options and colors, we’re sure you can find the perfect match for your room. Choose a continuous cord loop, cordless, or motorized version for an incredibly child-safe window treatment.

Roman Shades
Roman shades are our fabric shades that most resemble draperies. These add a touch of class and elegance to any room. Plus, with multiple colors and patters and four different draping styles, you can select anywhere from a formal to contemporary look to fit perfectly into your style.

Be sure to select a heavier fabric to allow for easier TV watching, the heavier the fabric, the less light will come in when closed. And, just like with our Honeycomb / Cellular Shades, you have the continuous cord loop, cordless, and motorized options to keep your shades super kid-friendly.

The Hang Out Spot
If your family room isn’t just used for watching TV and you’d like to let in some natural light, there are some things you’ll need to keep in mind for window coverings.

Window blinds are great for letting in varying amounts of natural light. You have multiple options including tilting the slats up to 180 degrees, opening the blinds fully, and closing the blinds fully.

By choosing the routeless or cloth tapes option for your window blinds, you won’t have the problem of light leaking in through the holes in the blinds. We’ve all had that experience, sitting on a couch talking, when a beam of sunlight comes blinding through the hole perfectly into our eyes… avoid it by making your blinds routeless or adding cloth tapes to cover the holes.

Window shades operate differently from window blinds. They can either be fully extended, partially extended, or fully closed. If you choose the top down / bottom up feature (which is our favorite), you can block off only a part of the window with the shade while still allowing light to come in from either side (top or bottom) of the shade. This can come in handy if you don’t want people looking into your window but want to let in the light or if you don’t want to block out the view or if there is just that one pesky spot that’s too bright.

You also have the option to choose a more sheer (thinner) fabric. This will allow the sun to come in as a warm glow – great for ambiance, but it may not lend to the darkest TV watching experience.
